The Library now offers access to Web of Science

The Library now offers access to Web of Science, an online index that covers journal articles across a broad range of disciplines in the sciences as well as the arts and humanities. Try it today by visiting https://hsl.upstate.edu/wos

Because it indexes the citations used in all covered articles, Web of Science is a powerful tool for finding core papers in a field of study.  Search for specific articles by subject, author, or journal, and see detailed information such as which papers have cited a core paper, or how many times a paper has been cited in a given time period.

The Web of Science platform pulls together many separate databases and products. In addition to the covered citation indexes (Web of Science Core Collection, SciELO Citation Index, and KCI-Korean Journal Database), the Library also has access to two related products, Journal Citation Reports and Essential Science Indicators.

Journal Citation Reports (JCR): https://hsl.upstate.edu/jcr

This tool uses Web of Science’s data to rank journals according to their citation influence, such as the highest impact or most frequently cited journals in a particular field. Citation data for science, technology, and social sciences publications is drawn from approximately 12,000 scholarly and technical journals and conference proceedings from more than 3,300 publishers in over 60 countries.

Essential Science Indicators (ESI): https://hsl.upstate.edu/esi

This database combines Web of Science’s data with visualization tools to show emerging science trends as well as influential individuals, papers, journals and countries in a field of research. Article counts and citation data are derived from journals indexed in Web of Science Core Collection (Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index only) over a 10-year period.
