The NIH Public Access Policy at UPSTATE
What is the NIH Public Access Policy?
NIH now requires that any publication resulting from NIH funding be made accessible to the public through PubMed Central (PMC), its free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature, within 12 months of publication.(For details, see NIH’s Public Access Policy Homepage).
Why is the NIH Public Access Policy important to me?
If your research is supported by any direct funding from NIH, any manuscript resulting from that research must comply with the NIH Public Access Policy.Failure to comply may result in delayed or denied funding.
What do I need to do?
There are four steps that authors must take to assure compliance:Step 1: Determine Applicability
Step 2: Address Copyright
Step 3: Submit Your Paper
Step 4: Demonstrate Compliance
