Eastwood Humanities Collection

About the Collection

In a ceremony on June 29, 2006, The Syracuse Medical Alumni Association dedicated the gift of the “Dr. Gregory Eastwood Humanities Collection” to President Eastwood in honor of his many years of support to the Alumni Association and service to the Health Science Center. At the dedication ceremony, on behalf of the Medical Alumni Association, Medical Alumni Board member Dr. Ruth Hart, presented Dr. Eastwood with the initial works that would be in the collection, specially selected for him by his family. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.6, Verdi’s Requiem, works by Steinbeck and Spinoza, as well as both the book and film version of his favorite novel, Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, were among the works presented.

The collection is comprised of works of literature, art, film and music available to medical students as well as the Upstate Medical University community at large. In addition to honoring Dr. Eastwood, the collection is intended to serve as a resource for student enrichment in and enjoyment of the humanities in a relaxed setting that can offer a refreshing and worthwhile timeout from intense study.

Location

The Eastwood collection is housed in the front room on the first floor of the Health Science Library.

Donations

Alumni are invited to make suggestions for works that could be donated to the collection. The Dr. Gregory Eastwood Collection offers the opportunity to share with today’s medical students a particular piece of literature, film, art or music that has had an impact on you. If you choose to donate a work to the collection, it will be labeled with a dedication bookplate in acknowledgement of your generosity.
