On My Own Time on display now at HSL
On My Own Time is on display now through June 28th on the first floor of the Library. This year’s show features 17 Upstate employee and retiree artists and 47 works in a variety of mediums.
Health Sciences Library Clinical Outreach Coordinator, Olivia Tsistinas, has been coordinating the Upstate On My Own Time exhibition for a decade. In that time she has collected and displayed 397 works. Olivia said, “This year we had a wonderful increase in participation. Upstate is filled with talented, creative employees! With the addition of displays at Community Campus, and the Cancer Center, I hope even more artists will join the show in 2020!”
On My Own Time will be displayed at the Upstate Cancer Center starting July 1st.
On My Own Time was initiated in 1974 by CNY Arts (then the Cultural Resources Council) in cooperation with the Everson Museum of Art to help local businesses identify, celebrate, and promote creativity among their employees. It's a wonderful way for the business community to show their support of local arts and culture!
Over the years, this program has exhibited the works of thousands of Central New York workers, who are amateur artists on their own time, creating countless rewards for the employees and their sponsoring companies.
On My Own Time‘s popularity and success has spread across the country, to cities where it has been replicated, name and all. On My Own Time is a program that makes artistic talents that might otherwise go unnoticed visible. It recognizes a most precious gift – creativity.
