Rediscovering the Class of 1885
A Tenth Portrait
When the negative of the framed picture of the Class of 1885 was enlarged, lo and behold there were ten students, not nine. The tenth was the missing Frank A. Adams -- the portrait in the top row, second from the left. Frank was a woman!
Also visible are little pieces of black cloth on the top corners of 4 of the portraits -- Frederick E. Bruce (top row), Wilfred Porter (3rd row), and Roger Pease and Frederick Hyde (4th row). This accounts for the lighter triangular area on these portraits. What did these 4 have in common? They had all died by 1887.
