About the Collection
In a ceremony on June 29, 2006, The Syracuse Medical AlumniAssociation dedicated the gift of the “Dr. Gregory Eastwood HumanitiesCollection” to President Eastwood in honor of his many years of support to theAlumni Association and service to the Health Science Center. At the dedicationceremony, on behalf of the Medical Alumni Association, Medical Alumni Boardmember Dr. Ruth Hart, presented Dr. Eastwood with the initial works that would be in the collection, specially selected for him by his family. Tchaikovsky’sSymphony No.6, Verdi’s Requiem, works by Steinbeck and Spinoza, as well as boththe book and film version of his favorite novel, Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, were among theworks presented.
Location
The collection is housed in the front room on the first floor of the Health Science Library. It is comprised of works of literature, art, film and music available to medical students as well as the Upstate Medical Universitycommunity at large. In addition to honoring Dr. Eastwood, the collection isintended to serve as a resource for student enrichment in and enjoyment of thehumanities in a relaxed setting that can offer a refreshing and worthwhile timeout from intense study.
Donations
Alumni are invited to make suggestions for works that could be donated to the collection.
The Dr. Gregory Eastwood Collection offers the opportunityto share with today’s medical students a particular piece of literature, film, art or music that has had an impact on you.

If you choose to donate a work to the collection, it will be labeled with a dedication bookplate to acknowledge the donor.
