Book Borrowing Policy

Learn about borrowing library materials from the Health Sciences Library including information about eligibility, library cards, loan times, renewals and recalls. 

Getting a Library Card

All Upstate ID holders are eligible for borrowing privileges to all Library collections. All you need is your Upstate ID.

All non-Upstate individuals are eligible for a library card with borrowing privileges outlined below. Individuals must complete the Library card application and provide a current address and email.

Loan Times

Renewals

Renewals of Library materials may be done in person; by calling the library services desk at 315-464-7091; or online through My Library Card .  Renewals are granted only if no other customers are waiting for the item.

Renewals of Library materials obtained through interlibrary loan are done at the discretion of the lending library. They may be requested through your  online account or by calling 315-464-5116.

Recalls

All borrowed materials are subject to recall. These materials must be returned promptly when recalled for a course reserve. Borrowing privileges may be suspended if materials are not returned when recalled.

Closed Reserve Collection

Reserve items must be used within the library unless being checked out by faculty for a class.   

  • There is a two-hour loan time for closed reserves.  
  • Media closed reserve items are available to faculty, students and staff for special show dates and may be checked out one week in advance of the show date.  
  • Customers may use items in the Library during After-Hours. Return items to After-Hours cart when finished.
